Hi, i hope someone could help but my friends mind at ease. She is panicking because she has gone on holiday and turned the mains water off but her electric boiler is still on. Its on a timer and set to heat up the water in the tank every night. She is worried that with the water heating up every night but no water to top it up it might damage her boiler or cause a fire.

Should she be worried?

Do you know exactly what type of "electric boiler" ? Is it an immersion heater in a hot water cylinder ,if so its fine. In fact all electric water heaters that have a tank should be OK as long as they have water in them.

Thanks for replying terry, she doesnt know what kind of boiler it is other than it being electric and it having a tank. Her flat is a new build so the boiler is about 5 years old and is just for hot water not central heating.

Being 5 years old the tank will be extra insulated so virtually no heat loss to switch on the element, so it's safe and won't present a large leccy bill while she's away ;)

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. She's reasured that its ok so now so she can relax and enjoy her holiday.
