Makita Multi Tool Rust

My Makita multi tool has some rust where the fittings are inserted. Should I be taking any particular measures for this please? I was tempted to squirt some WD40 on it...
 
The bolt affair on mine went a bit rusty after being stored in the van over last winter. It's chemically blacked steel, so all I did was clean it up with a bit of steel wool and oil it. Hasn't affected the working at all. Or is it a different part to the piece in this guy's hand?

Just lube it up with 3 in 1 oil every now and again. Shouldn't really matter.
 
Here’s the rusty part. Should I apply 3 in 1 to all the affected areas?

Take the rust off with a bit of steel wool. or a Brillo pad, or even P120 alox sanding paper first before you oil it
 
Thanks. Would it also be helpful to do the same to my Makita drill chucks?
I assume 3in1 is preferred over WD40?

I find WD40 doesn't lubricate as well as a good oil does. While it might be decent for driving out moisture and penetrating I don't feel that it lasts partiupartic well so tend to use 3in1 a lot more. Either that or molybdenum disulifde grease.
 
I can see why 3-in-1 oil is better than WD40 to protect the metal from rust. But doesn't it attract dust? like Sawdust? Which is everywhere while using a woodworking tool? And won't that dust eventually clog the moving parts of the tool? One of the benefits of WD40 is that it does not attract dust (so I've heard). Thank you
