Hi,

I am renovating an old barn and I need to put a couple of stud walls up. The first is against the house wall. Since the ceiling is low, the wall will hit the beams which are coming down at an angle.
I've been considering making a triangular piece of wood that goes across all of the beams (perpendicular) to fix the horizontal tracks to (to make a vertical piece for the studs to attach to), but surely there is something better than this?

There is also another wall that runs alongside the pitch of the roof (so the wall would be trialgular shaped). I think this should be easier because I can cut the studs to the correct angles & fix, but since I'm asking anyway - any tips for doing this?

Hope I'm making sense - any help would be really appreciated!

Would not use steel - we have them in a six year old house.

Advantages -all to do with making the installation quicker and cheaper for the builder.

Disadvantages - all to do with living with them (flexible walls, don't stiffen the ceiling, need grommets to run cables through the steel . . .

Use timber - far better end result.

Normally you would just use a piece of the horizontal studding on the angled ceiling and fit the studs into it having cut them at an angle. If it is parallel to and between the timbers you will need noggins to fix to.
