Hi
We have pulled up an old carpet with the plan to restore the old floorboards.
However, we discovered a concrete hearth (approx 2 inch thick). It is already cracked and it moves when a crowbar is placed under it. We would like to remove and cover the space with floorboards. However, there is a metal sheet the width of the hearth that pokes out from the wall. Does anyone know what this is and how we can remove it?
Many thanks in advance

we had a hearth abit like that. that looks like a board not concrete.
can you lift up and remove the board and the bits of wood around the hearth and post a photo of the full hearth.
you might have to cut away the bottom 100mm of the plaster board to release the metal.
i think the electric wire will have to be moved from harms way.

Thanks
Metal appears to be part of the old fire place but cut the piece away using and an ane grinder then the hearth just lifted out. Much quicker job than first thought.

what youve done is great. Depending on how deep your floor joists are will help but you need to bring the massive notches up to level with the other joists.
