Microsoft Works Database

Hi.
I have an old laptop using Windows XP and have on it a large database (.wdb) which I want to be able to move/read on a new laptop running Vista. How do I do this?
(Sorry, but not very tech savvy)

you might be best to try and find a copy of Works on ebay cheaply.

Nothing else opens Works files but you could try converters eg

these will extract the data into spreadsheet format.

Do you have 'open office' installed?
Although what I have been reading it wont open it, but when you manage to open it save it on 'open office.
Now lets see if we can open it.

If you convert it to Access, then open office will open it.
Nothing to lose, just make certain you have a copy saved before you start

Tony 1851, what version of Microsoft Works are you using on the old PC? I an pretty sure I have a copy of Works 4.5 somewhere which I will happily let you have if it's going to help you.

In the 'Add or Remove Programs' window, under Microsoft Works, it says;

Version: 08.04.0623

Comments: Microsoft Works 8.0 installation

if that means anything?

The version I have as I stated is 4.5, but I will have a dig around at work. I vaguely recall seeing a Works 8.0 disk kicking around somwhere and will post back on Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

Can't you just save it as a .csv file and then import it or open it into your new software, or even use Google docs online to view it

Was there not a "conversion" lead which Microsoft had?
Load the disc and connect the two pcs, everything migrated, or just what you wanted. (XP to Vista).

Run it on DVD or USB.

Just looked and I have a lead and disc, no more use to me as it was for some old laptops. Knew there was one.

But you should be fine with a CD/DVD.
