So I’ve killed another hotpoint.
These mid range machines £400ish seem to last 3-4 years. I have loads of customers that have Miele ones that are 25+ years old. Are the new ones made to the same build quality? Do I just accept I’m paying £1000? Will it last?
Any appliance engineers that can comment on the quality.

I paid quite a lot more to get the 10 year warranty. So far the only thing gone wrong is a kirby grip piercing the hose. That is user error but was not charged under the warranty even though technically excluded.

I got the Miele because the Siemens I had would not spin small loads (like towels) which threw the drum out of balance when spinning. Everything came out dripping. That may have improved since. I can't say there is a difference in washing quality.

The Miele has better electronics, also much heavier, so well pleased after 7 years.

Blup

I had a Bosch that was in the £600 mark and I gave up on that after a short time, got sick to death of it not spinning the loads. Even with a tiny imbalance it would faff around and faff around and then give up. It ended up in the skip and I bought a Miele.

Twice the weight, much more solid, and just gets on with it. It will spin anything - even a single bath towel and it manages to stay quite smooth.

Miele every time for me, I won`t entertain anything else

Our Miele is now 7 years old. Went wrong once but it turned out to be scale that just needed clearing out of a vacuum pipe. Wasn’t charged any call out. Think we paid about £1200 for it and got the 10 year guarantee plus £200 cash back on a promotion they were running.

Think our Miele Premier 520 is about 15 years old. Very solid machine with few problems and I certainly would not buy anything but a Miele if it needed replacing. Last year, I replaced the motor brushes and heating element and today had the top, front and sides off to tighten the springs, as it was rattling a little on spin. Puzzled to see a small plastic clip on the floor after putting it all back together. Slim chance anyone will know where it goes, but live in hope! There is a number on it: 241 024. Any ideas?
