Mixer tap - unable to access

My tenant reported that he was unable to turn off the hot water on the mixer tap so was having to use the stopcock each time. I was hoping I could open it up to look inside but the unit is secured by a tiny nut that I have no idea how to get off (see photo).

Does anyone know if there is a specialist tool for this?

just a diyer, , so not an expert , and dont know the tap itself, but when i have seen that type of thing before - is there an allen bolt inside that hole by chance ???

Do you mean I might need a small allen key to do the job? Thats possible.

yes, as i say - i'm not sure , but that maybe where i would look and see if a small grub screw is inside with an allen head

You were right. But having got the screw off this is what I'm seeing - a mess of limescale and rust, possibly corrosion? And although it's now loose I haven't been able to get it out to inspect, as I was hoping.

probably cheaper just to replace it all

I have soaked with limescale remover before , and managed to sort, but only comes back again

I was thinking that. Should replacing a tap be a DIY job? Just wondering (again) if some special tool would be needed to do it properly.

remmebr just a DIYer , i'm sure the more Pro guys will make suggestions

you may need some tools - i have various tap box spanners that fit - but often wont go around the nut - because of the ceramic -
This i have used just recently on a small basin where the TAP had come loose a few weeks ago.

Fits 50mm A/F and 46mm A/F brass and nylon nutsNB: Some modern waste backnuts are slightly larger than 50mm and will need filing to fit and nut must be hexagonal not octagonal

This is what my tenant sent me. Looks like just a normal screwdriver needed. (Don't know why it's not properly screwed in unless he did that himself to make it clearer)

Yes that's a lock screw so with luck should unscrew.
But almost certain you would need box spanners to install new tap.
