Afternoon all. Longtime lurker first time poster! I’m in the middle of a kitchen renovation which has resulted in a couple of holes in the floor due to removing walls, etc. It‘s a floating floor (block/beam, damp proof, polystyrene insulation then 18mm tongue and groove chipboard) exposed right down to the block and beam floor below.
The polystyrene insulation looks like it was originally 40mm thick which has compressed down to around 35mm over the years, it’s 40mm in places that were never walked on like under the stairs. I can’t find anywhere locally that sells 40mm EPS insulation, 25 and 50 seems like the standard. There’s one place that sells it but only in packs of 10 where as I only need 1-2 boards so don’t want to pay a fortune and not use most of it! I’m looking at doing the job this weekend so don’t want to get it on the internet.
40mm Celotex seems pretty standard however and I can pick some up tomorrow. That brings me to my question… do people think it would be ok to use the Celotex to patch up the holes. My concern is that I don’t know if the celotex will compress down to match the EPS and I’ll end up with high spots which will cause issues with the floor not being level.
