Fairly complicated one this, but would appreciate any input if anyone has any thoughts.
Currently, have a old, Baxi Boston boiler, with pumped CH, gravity Hot Water in our house. Works great, added a NEST to it that made it pretty easy to control and make the house warm when we want it. Like the old boiler because it just works.
We are having an extension built, that mean we have to move - well replace the boiler, as well as adding UFH in the extension. We have a good heating engineer going to install the boiler and make whatever adjustments we want - also going to hang new radiators throughout. I was just wanting to make sure I had a coherent idea of what I want in terms of controls and whether they would work.
Because of the space where the new boiler is to go, we have a Vaillant Ecofit, and it will be plumbed up adding a pump to the HW side as well as adjustments to the vent, feed there.
So in the end we will end up with 3 zones - UFH in Extension, Vented HW tank on a pumped circuit, and the rest of the house (12 radiators).
Because we don't really think the old system in the house would be worth splitting to more zones, I have been really interested in the new Drayton Wiser, which basically means I can fit smart eTRVS on the radiators in the kids rooms, and timed ones on the rets of the house and control that part of the system between the living room thermostat as now and the kids radiator stats during the night - eventually rolling out the smart eTRVs on just about all the radiators in time.
One drawback is that Drayton tell me while they are working on it, their system is not yet ready for UFH.
Also, I understand that smart control of a Vaillant in the UK is only possible with their own system, with some sort of interface available from Holland to allow open Therm Interface possibly.
My question is, are there any issues from having 2 control system running 1 boiler? For example - get my Nest Set Up in the extension to run the UFH (which they say it can do) and the Drayton Wiser to do the rest? TEHN when they do release UFH, add it to the wiser?
Basically, 2 Heat Hubs calling on the Boiler for heat when needed?
The Drayton system isn't hugely expensive, and if I could get away with repurposing my NEST in the meantime, that could save me money.
Do you need super smarts for UFH? I understand there is the setback(?) temp question, but is it as simple as calling for heat and the mixing valve on the manifold sorting it out ?
