So my trusty Huawei p10 + is on its way out the battery is starting to play up, and I'm lucky if I get half a day out of it, I've had it 3 years and it's done well.

The phone has taken an absolute battering the past few years, gone through various DIY disasters, it's rolled about under cars with me, taken countless drops onto concrete and has only just cracked the screen the other day on its last drop,It's it's also been submerged in a bath accidentally, it is pretty battered now but the performance is still pretty decent other than the battery.

Phones don't appear to have come on leaps and bounds in recent years with the performance of mine now being considered as mid range. What has become apparent is the cost of phones has gone insane.

I was looking at getting a cat s62 pro that's just been launched, but the specs is no better than what I've already got, and can't see these specs being good for another 3 years.

For the past 7 years I've always bought my phone's outright rather than getting sucked into ludicrous lengthy contracts.

Now I've written war and piece any recommendations? I want something that will last like my current phone but be a bit future proof

Well you can get a pretty reasonable phone for £30/month and obviously you get calls/data chucked in so not sure I get the getting sucked into lengthy contracts bit.

I'm good with the SIM I already have, unlimited everything for £17 per month.

If I upgrade or choose a different network I'm in it for 2 years, pay over the odds for the phone, and I end up stuck paying more for something in the future.

I bought an xiaomi redmi note 8 pro for £200. If it gets smashed I will just buy another! Its been great so far...
A good case is the key to phone survival!

I always buy my phones outright too. My sim with unlimited calls, texts and 12Gb data (I average .5Gb data per month) costs around £6 per month after cashback. I’ve just bought an IPhone SE 2020. 256Gb £569. Had a Samsung S9 for a while, dropped it and cracked the screen, didn’t want to pay £240 to have a new one as I really hadn't taken to it so it was time to call it a day for that one. I guess I’m just an Apple fanboy!

I forgot a new specification requirement. I now want a dual SIM phone, I have a 2nd phone for work but I'm now sick and tired of carrying 2 phones to the point where I've left the work phone off for the past year tucked in a cupboard. I've given those I want to have my number, but my boss is now starting to insist I make use of the work phone.

My work phone was a budget bottom of the line phone 5 years ago and it's now so bad it's virtually unusable. They have said they'll get me a new phone but won't be for 6 months and although being dual SIM will again be the cheapest piece of equipment they can find.

Yeah the Google pixel has that, but I can't find much as to how it works

Esim is the future think it is only EE who do it in the UK. No physical SIM card

£500 ish gets you the xiamoi mi 10 5g

This has very similar specs to the Samsung S20 and is 5g therefore is future proof plus it comes with a dual SIM variant

I was looking at them.

I was looking at the Poco x2 pro aswell, they both seem almost identical.

The mi10 I found was 799 though admittedly that was direct with xiomi

What else do you use the phone for? Unless you play games is it worth spending £500 on a phone?
A feature worth having is facial recognition - Although its not massively secure it allows unlocking when you have gloves on / wet and dirty fingers.

With the Xiaomi phones you will need to install the hidden settings app and remove a lot of the bloat that comes with the phones.
The phone I have has Dual SIM, although I don't use it! The only thing I don't like about it is you cant dim the torch light down like I can with the works Iphone and I have not worked out how to get google to control my house automation from the lock screen using voice...
