Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

I am aware of people's dislike of above fireplace mounting, this is what the wife wants so I'll make it happen.

For some reason I thought my chimney breast was dot n dab so I went for the corefix solution.

Drilling into it however I find it is completely empty, so likely plasterboard followed by nothing (15-20 cm) and then presumably another plasterboard and brick?
There are no wooden studs or anything I think the corners are held together with metal studs.

Is there any solution here that doesn't involve me rebuilding the false chimney breast?

Could I attach some structural timber to the back wall that the TV (65" 20kg) could then mount onto?

Ok I got impatient and opened it up.
There's a stud (red) in the middle and on the two edges (74 cm apart).
Would attaching two (or 4) battens, single or double (green) to this work?
This would leave 8 mounting holes.
I guess corefix wouldn't be good for this as there's no cavity , would I just use the supplied screws and plugs since I can have the batten flush to the plasterboard?

Put your foot down. It is too high for a start. Still it won’t last long over that heat then you can start again.

Yes, that's more than adequate.

Went for 4 battens, pretty sure each of them can hold half of my mate so we'll see tomorrow how it goes!

For future reference if anyone is trying to do the same.

Used 38x63mm battens (2.4m £4 from B&Q) and 80mm turbodrive screws (2 on each side of each batten).

Should have made the plasterboard hole bigger for better access to attach the screws or potentially removed a whole section, but this worked in the end.

All you need is plasterboard fixings, wasted your time opening it up. A couple of screws thru the centre metal stud would also have held it.

My mount doesn't mount centrally, so couldn't use central stud (wooden).

Also while plasterboard fixings might work, I've read some nightmare stories so fastening into battens will allow to sleep a little better at night.

Have mounted 85” tv on a few plasterboard fixings , no problem .

the problems only really appear when you are trying to use a fold out mount just mounted to plasterboard but for a flat or slightl tilted forward the weight is basically straight down to plasterboard fixings are ok

It looks great, nice job. It does look pretty tight up againts the wall, how much airflow is needed as heat can fry electronics

It is too high. You will get a crick in the neck.

Thanks for the fair warning.

It's built for this, it can even go completely flush! Most of the electronics are in a 'one connect' box so not in the TV itself. There's also a 7.5mm gap at the back as the mount has been designed. Wanted to buy it specifically for how close it gets.
