Hi all, first post. The engineered floating hardwood flooring moves quite a bit and is squeaky, particularly around the door frame. I took off the skirting boards and noticed there wasn't any expansion gap, so I've cut one using a multitool, but the floors still move/squeak. Could the floors just take some time to level out now that they have space to expand or is it another issue? If it's something else, any suggestions on how to fix them (with no access to underneath)?

Is it new? Inherited? Uneven subfloor will cause movement and noise , talc sprinkled across and swept into joints can alleviate minor noise problems ( acts as dry lubricant)

They're about 20 years old. The new expansion joints helped, but i'll try the talc method, thanks!

Well worth giving the floor some time to settle, a good couple of seasons may well allow it to settle significantly.

We have just done this with my parents 25 year old Pergo Laminate in their bedroom following a shower leak from the Ensuite. It's taken about a year but the boards have all re-settled near enough perfect.

Thanks, that's good to hear. Saves me trying some messy method of injecting sealant with a syringe!
