Mr Bates and the post office

Given that you've not actually given a position on which to bet, impossible to say either way ;)
Greater Manchester signed a deal last December, it was of such strategic importance, it was signed in Tokyo. Whats the betting the press will have a go at Burnam next.

Am I entitled to compensation for 'postal orders' stolen from my birthday cards when I was a child?

Interesting point made just now on Sky by the bloke who exposed all this originally, he says that the PO shouldn't be determining compensation claims by the very spm's the post office lied about cheated covered up and falsely accused. Apparently a lot of a lot of admin involved in processing the claims, maybe they need some reliable software to process it all.

A thought, simply adopt the BP compensation approach following the Deepwater horizon disaster. It should be easy to calculate the losses as the individuals and the amounts are known. Then simply pay out on the applications received without need to prove anything further. Don't distinguish between the dead and alive.

Deep water horizon was mostly about the US emptying the pockets of a non-US corporation. They wouldn’t have gone after a US firm to the same level.

So what price would you put on wrongful convictions/jail time?
What price for the suicides?
What price for marriage breakups and family splits?
What price on being ostracised in a community?
What price on mental health of the victims?

Not so easy after all is it!

Reads like a charge sheet against the government

There is also a pre-Horizon system that could also have similar issues:
Labour MP Kevan Jones has called on Post Office boss Nick Read to come before MPs to answer questions after reports about faults with the Capture software used for back office accounting.

As it should...

As well as it should against Fujitsu and the PO managers...

But you have to look at the wording behind the effective sacking of the latest chairman...

"However, the government is understood to want to appoint a Whitehall insider to the role as it looks to strengthen the Post Office's corporate governance"

'Corporate Governance' means further concentrating the influence/wealth in the hands of the rich/powerful...

Therefore nothing will really change...

The next scandal will be coming along soon, but 'lessons will be learned' (again) and no-one in power will get more than a slap on the wrist!

No. We need someone with your brains and sense of justice to work that out. What do you suggest?

It’s all fairly well defined. It’s not the first time someone has suffered damages.

It seems common for class actions to identify a pool of compensation, with payments out to those who demonstrate basic eligibility, like the diesel emissions scandal. PO fraud compensation would fit this model.
