Multipoint inside door lock change

Hi all,

Im looking to change a door lock. The house we recently bought has a inner and outter door. the issue im having is when the outside door is opened its too big and hits the door handle of the inner door.

what im looking to do is remove the lock/handle thats already there with one without a handle on either side, a key on the front and a flip lock on the inner side.

ive added some pictures to illustrate

could I get some advice on which type of lock i should get. Name or a link would be amazing.

First things first: have you actually checked that the key of the inner door is able to make the latch retract?

(Or do you mean you are going to replace the entire locking mechanism?)
 
Thank you for the reply, i didnt think of that. no it doesnt. it just locks the handle in place.

Ive had another look and I've found that the locking mechanism locks at the bottom and top of the door. the middle latch (the sticky out bit) gets locked in place as well. it also partially locks the door when the handle is pulled up.

what Im thinking now is that if i could remove the handle cover, the key mechanism inside and replace it with one that has a key on the outer door and a flip knob on the in side. I could get a cover that doesnt have a handle on it. maybe removing the middle latch in the process?

the only thing i would have to make sure is the new mechanism would do is the same as the current one. move the latch at the top and bottom of the door to lock it in place via a key instead of the handle.

do you think that is feasible?
 
Sorry, I'm having a slightly hard time getting your meaning.

If you replace the entire locking mechanism including gearbox, I imagine most new versions will have the behaviour where the key retracts the side latch. I don't believe there will be any possibility of a non-rotating handle allowing you to move the top and bottom locking pins, so if you do away with the side latch the door will not actually stay closed.

I take it you rely mainly on the outer door for security?
 
I am not totally sure here but I suspect that if you reversed the opening order of the outer doors so the centre bar was on the other door it would get rid of the clash.

Also it doesn't look to me as though it would necessarily be impossible to find a handle for the inner door that gave you that tiny bit extra clearance.
 
unfortunately the way the door are installed, we have to open the other outer door first then the door that hits the inner door.

I'll take a look in to a smaller door handle and see where that takes me.

i was just hoping to remove it completely. I think it may be too much of a mess to fix that one little thing. story of my house haha.
