Hi

While taking off the carpet in our new home to fix laminate I found a cable that had been taped up.

I can see that this is a live cable and is on the lighting circuit with another downstairs extension light (but not all of downstairs). The cable goes back towards the middle of the house.

I was hoping to diconnect at the CU, but worry there's a spur underneath.

Also what could it have possibly been for? Its near our front bay window. Flex, while the socket not far from it, has its own twin n earth.

You are going to need a torch and a mirror, or a small child, and look under the floor void and see where the cable heads off to.
There’s no point looking behind sockets, if it’s definitely on the lighting circuit.
If you are lucky, there will be a junction box under there, somewhere.

So lifted up another floorboard closer to the other side of the room and it goes through a sort of brick wall (gaps between for bricks for airflow maybe into further into the the next room(lounge). It means I won't be able to terminate at the source as it's all newish laminate flooring and dont fancy all that.

How best can I terminate the cable here? Junction box? What amps? Screw to bottom of joist? Can the cables trail the sand/or whatever it is floor beneath?

Loved the idea of the child. I was tempted to send my 6yr old searching for it. Lol

Thanks

You’ll need a MAINTENANCE FREE junction box, fixed to a floor joist etc.
something like this

Don’t like cables trailing on the ground. Vermin may chew.
