Mystery hole in partywall.

While lifting some floorboards near the main entrance to our home I found a small hole on the party wall side.

A bricks width and height in size, filled with loose stone, the likes of which I have not encountered in the rest of the building.

I could reach into the hole and it appears to go a short distance before going upwards, a bit like a hollowed out L shape.

It's not an airbrick as its against party wall, nor could it be a vent as I could not find an opening in the loft, there is no party wall in the loft, I can literally stand on it.

The stones look rather specific to whatever was being achieved here.

Any ideas whar it was for?

House was built between 1900-10, semi-detached.

Temporary works to aid construction are a feature of building practice throughout the ages, they get covered up and often no one sees them. Your out of focus pics add to the mystery.

It's the best my endoscope could do sadly. The third photo is the clearest, tilted at an upwards angle.

I was hoping to find treasure but alas, just stone.

Turn it into a story of buried treasure for the kids and move on
