Mystery tool...

I bought a job lot of garden tools at auction last week and this one was part of the lot.

Any ideas what it might be?

I wondered if that might be the case Stephen but the design of mine doesn't look like it would pick up too many leaves. Maybe you're right and that design has moved on a bit since then (the days where companies used telex!).

Shame that more of the label isn't legible...

Also the 'jaws' are only 11 and a half inches long, seems a bit small for something as light as leaves. Handles are 32" long.

Those were just the first ones I found. Looking for metal ones I came across a few like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Ga...bber-Picker-Long-Arms-Easy-Grab-/271301419090
which look pretty much like what you have.

That address must be Petersfield as it's in Hants

The STD code shown is 0730 and Petersfield is now 01730. The '1' was inserted on PhONEday which was April 1995, and Petersfield numbers are now six digits long. So it is hard to look it up based on the phone number.

Can't find a concrete company with an owl logo though.

I don't think the last part is concrete. before 'crete' is a gap about the size of an 'o' and before that are (the bottom of) two vertical lines, so that does not look like a 'c'.

Thanks for the detective work StephenOak and rsgaz. That one on ebay is bang on. So, it looks like I got myself a leaf grabber!

Yeah, I hadn't really zoomed in on that bit, it just seemed to be so clear at a glance that it was concrete, but you're right.
What on earth fits there though ending in 'ncrete'?!?!

That first word could well be Corrie, seeing as Corrie & Co LTD just happen to have the phone number 01730 262552 and it looks just like CO LTD at the start of the black text. Albeit their logo has changed and they are fencing specialists now (if it was them).

What great detective work from you lot! Thank you all.

I google imaged "Corrie-Ironcrete roller" and the first image has the same blue label.

Bargain! The auctions are great for many things, especially tools and nice bits of solid old furniture.
