I've just had a new unvented cylinder installed, and as part of the installation, I had pipework for a bar mixer shower installed to tide me over until a full bathroom refurb, knowing that the ancient plastic concealed shower valve would not have enjoyed 3 bar of pressure.

Of course, this has led to needing to put in a couple of tiles. The heating firm tried to take this on, and tiled directly onto the backing shown in the photo, and of course the tile cracked as soon as the bar mixer was slightly tightened. The firm are definitely heating engineers and not tilers, so I think at this point it's probably worth doing myself.

This bathroom is very old but not yet on the critical path for renovation, so removing all tiles and reboarding the entire shower is not an option. I'm after something that will do for 12-24 months, and will not leak during that time.

From what I can see, there is old tile adhesive, expanding foam around the pipe, plasterboard, and concrete block at the very back.

What would be the best option to create a surface "good enough" to support a tile in the short-medium term while hopefully not causing too much water ingress?

Thank you in advance for your advice.
