I've got a replacement coming Tuesday but wouldn't mind a way of getting the heating and hot water on before then

It's totally dead, no lights etc.

I've got a baxi system boiler and megaflo cylinder.

I've attached a photo of the wiring.

Thanks for the help.

Not really easy to see whats connected to what there.
If you have the installation instructions for the Nest you should be able to work out what to link to give you heat and hot water- but would be fairly manual for the heating (the dhw should look after itself)
EDIT I'm assuming you checked that power is getting to the thing?

I haven't checked, I honestly don't know how. Stick a multimeter in somewhere presumably?

If you have a multimeter and the install drawing for the Nest hub that would be a start. There'll be an L and N supply to the thing which should be at 240 volts- this voltage can kill you so be careful waving a meter at it. Ideally don't do it on your own (so if you f*ck up your assistant can use a wooden stick to separate you from live parts and dial 999
Mr Google says the 2 terminals on the left are the supply L and N. Measure L to N, L to E and N to E, should get 240, 240 and zero.

Baxi 700 system. I've gone ahead and fitted a switch between 2 and 3 and that's got heating on. Not sure what to do about the hot water though

If there are wires in 5 and 6 only, fit a switch between them.
If there are wires in 4, 5 and 6 - use a 2 way light switch with 5 to Com, 4 to L2 and 6 to L1.
