Netgear adapter keeps disconnecting

My son's Old Evesham PC that was very badly infected. Took it down to nothing by formatting the hard drive. Reinstalled XP to factory settings.

Put in Virgin Media wireless and have used the USB Netgear Adapter, as in the past to gain access to Internet.

However after a few minutes the internet cuts out/disconnects itself! Before formatting the hard drive, the machine would get onto internet without problem and stay connected.

Can anyone help me here as I want to add my Virgin Security plus update XP to present day settings.

Connect the PC direct to the Virgin modem using an Ethernet cable, let us know what happens

When you say you've restored it to factory settings, what service pack level are you at?

Sorry for the delay in coming back but my son went away to his mayes for New Years Eve and arrived back this morning!!!!!

He tried another adaptor we had and now everything seems OK.

However I would like to thank both EFCLee1 and Igorian for their time in replying to my original request, much appreciated.
