Hi all - hoping someone can help with the issue I am having - I will try to keep this simple!
We are having a kitchen/dining room extension - new downstairs bathroom, kitchen replaced etc and as part of this, wanted our 20+ year old combi boiler moved to the back of the new extension.
As part of the quote - building company will do all this - we just pay for the new boiler and any additional services. I need to ensure we are not left without any heating/hot water for any period of time (more than a day).
Building company have quoted £2k for additional services (Valiant 30kw boiler, power flush and extended flue kit), however British Gas have said they will provide a new boiler free plus smart thermostat, power flush etc for a similar price and we are leaning towards asking the building company to do all the gas/water pipe work and then asking BG to come in and fit the boiler and thermostat. Few questions:
- We have no thermostat currently, just TRVs. BG will fit a Hive thermostat, building company have said just a timer will be fitted. Is this OK?
- Building company plumber will lay 22mm pipe through the new extension to new boiler site, will this be sufficient?
-If we ask BG to do the boiler, we will ask building co plumber to leave new gas pipes unconnected to mains and not connect to main gas supply. Will BG then do this to ensure boiler goes live?
- There is currently no live electricity to the new boiler site. Will BG or builder allow a temporary power connection (extension lead) to new site (until power goes live in new site and can wire into fused spur)
