Hi everyone,
We’ve had an absolute disaster of a HETAS registered log burner installation. Finally 3 months after installation we can finally use it and it’s wonderful. We have twin wall flue, going up internally through the bedroom and into the very small loft space (2.5 ft max).
We’ve had a roofer come and redo the lead flashing and fix the roof bcoz the installer did such a poor job and we had he most momentous leak in heavy rain. It all looks good on the roof now and we have used rock wool in the loft to insulate around the flue as we were getting a huge draft into the bedroom.

There’s 2 things that are making me anxious;
1. We can hear dripping. It’s water into metal or lead so we are assuming it’s coming off the flue and onto the roof and it’s making this noise (the loft is dry so we don’t think it’s coming inside) but it’s infuriating. Every time it rains we can hear it and it makes me up in my sleep. So firstly, is this normal and what can we do to stop it?
2. Wind noise from the stove. We are very exposed and take the brunt of a south west wind. During winds of 25 plus, the noise in the living room is incredibly loud. I’ve read all about chimney cowls but not sure this would apply for a flue? Is there anything I can do about this noise? It’s almost unbearable and actually blows the flames almost out in high winds. It’s totally ruined our peaceful living room.

I want to make sure I get it right first time as any fix to the external flue will involve scaffolding going up again so I don’t want to take a chance. Any ideas would be extremely helpful!

Thanks
Kate

I should have posted these. Photos from the roofer of his new lead flashing.
