Hi,

Just about to have a patio done. Our lawn is relatively large and really uneven and has low points. Also has a lot of moss in areas. Our soil is very sandy after the first few inches.

We had the idea to use the patio dig to spread the very sandy soil onto the garden and even it out.

I’m wondering if I should invest in some grass seed and throw that down before the landscaper does the spread or just not bother with seed?

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

It would be ok to level up the low spots but you need 4-6 inches of good quality topsoil for the grass to grow properly. The grass colour will be really patchy otherwise. The sandy soil you describe is most likely upper subsoil which is unlikely to support a good lawn.

Check out the lawnright fella on youtube. He takes you through all the steps to establish a good lawn. Worth a watch of a couple of his videos and then you can decide.
