New stair spindles

Can somebody recommend a product (not paint) to cover my new handrail and stair spindles please, at the moment they are plain softwood. I don’t want to be redoing them every year though. Looking a light oak kind of colour.

You have a number of options- you could stain them and then varnish them, or you could stain them and use button or french polish.
