Hi guys, we have a small half height stud wall acting as a balustrade on our landing, which we are going to replace with a handrail and spindles to open things up. There is no newell post at present.

I have a few options on fixing the post, but I need to make sure the base rail is neat as well.

Originally I though I would just bolt the post to the joist next to the stringer. But when I put the base rail in, there is going to be a lip between the floor/ base rail and wall below.

I then though scribe the post over the stringer, but I don’t think I will have enough space to put a 45 mitre on the base rail and handrail.
What do you guys think?

I can’t envisage what you mean but generally you can trim something if it’s too prominent and cap it if it’s gappy or got an uneven edge

Blup
