NI Protocol - Windsor Framework

Tis all very well some ? Complaining about the unionists blocking the assembly over some very complex issue

How ever afai recall Sinn Fein blocked the assembly a while back over some Irish lauguage ball cocks
Not for two years, and not to block legislation passed by Westminster which was precisely the sovereignty we were trying to get back

There is a statement at 1.30 and then the deal will be published. Interesting comment from the Irish Deputy PM, which suggests the EU might be more flexible than before. I can't remember the finer details of the old proposals because it was such a long time ago. But I think the general idea was that the UK would follow EU rules on goods so that there could be seamless trade between NI & GB and no border checks with the EU between NI and Ireland.

Micheál Martin was then asked if he was concerned the government may have “over-promised” to the DUP on matters that would cause friction with the EU.

The European Union haven’t been a party to the UK government talks, but my sense is that the [European] Commission’s main concern is the single market, not necessarily the transfer of goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland," he says.

“My view is that the commission all along has been co-operative and constructive in endeavouring to get a resolution to all of these issues so that people can get about their daily lives in a less constrained way."

This is the bit that the hard Brexiteers are questioning in the debate in the Commons. They are worried that this means the UK won't be able to diverge from EU rules on goods. It's beyond me. I'm going to have to wait for the various explainers to be written in the following hours/days.

We will ensure that whenever parliament is considering new legislation, it has the information needed about any impacts on the internal market and measures necessary to protect Northern Ireland’s place in the internal market, to decide how to proceed.

To ensure complete transparency, the Government will legislate to require that a minister in charge of a bill must assess whether or not it has an impact on trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland and, if so, make a statement to Parliament setting out whether the legislation would have significant adverse implications for Northern Ireland’s place in the UK internal market. Where primary legislation does carry such implications for the internal market, the government will set out any measures it proposes to take to protect the internal market.

John d wishing death on people, few on here think like that, till one day they to get be old which creeps up faster than you know it.

You are correct, Sinn Féin didn't bring the government down for 2 years, it was 3 years actually.
Why did Sinn Féin bring down the government?was it because the NHS was in crisis, was it because of the state of the education system, the rise in homelessness, or the economy perhaps?.
The reason Sinn Féin collapsed the government had nothing to do with any of the above.
It was to force Westminster to impose a language act on N.Ireland costing 100's of millions a year.
Money that could be better used helping people, is wasted on trying to teach Irish to people who can't even speak English properly.
The City Hall had a dedicated Irish language telephone line for people who wanted to make complaints or enquiries about council services in Irish.
You could call and have your enquiry dealt with in Irish, they paid some ejit to answer the phone to other ejits who wanted to talk in Irish.
This fiasco cost 1000's a year, don't know whether it still exists, apparently the only calls they got were from pranksters in the pub.

Nonsense.

Are you saying old people are NOT prone to dying? What makes you so against being informed of the facts of life? Are you just ignorant or stupid?

Old people WILL die sooner rather than later - FACT. Lots of Brexers are old - FACT.

They're old already. Just nervous about telling anyone their age and if you dare ask them, all you will get is THIS.
