Norton Internet Security Bargain?

Hi guys,

Similar topic to a recent one:

We've had the '21 Days Remaining' message on our Norton 360 version 5. I knew it was due for renewal soon so have been looking around for the best bargain. If we renew the full 360 version 5 via the Norton account it is £60+ for 3 pcs (need 2). I've just found this LINK and was wondering if it is a bargain as it seems to do pretty much the same thing, unless I'm missing something? :? I/we don't visit dodgy sites (HONEST! :oops: ) but do sometimes get 'High Risk' warnings from the current Norton and shop a fair bit online so we want decent security.
If I buy this, is it just a matter of entering the product key that comes with it into the Norton prompt that appears onscreen with the renewal warning or will I need to completely uninstall the existing version and install the new one?

Hope someone can advise as I'm not sure I have much confidence in what some of Currys' staff say!

It's a well known scam from the software makers - especially the likes of Norton, that if you renew via their "offer" its always much more expensive than if you just buy the software again from someone else

I understand that, which is why I've been looking for the best deal, but as soon as I posted this query I suddenly got THIS POP UP AD from Norton/Symantec where the full version 5 can be downloaded for half price. Are they spying on me?? :?

Will probably go for this unless someone can advise me otherwise.
 
I doubt you need Norton 360

I reckon Norton Internet Security is worth having, and you can get it at half price at Tesco (covers up to three machines) and doubtless other places too http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-3263.aspx

BTW I usually buy a sealed, genuine copy off fleabay at reduced price because it is out of date (e.g. NIS2009). As soon as you install and register, it downloads the latest version (NIS2012) with 12 months free updates and online support. I find the online support very good.

I know about the free upgrades - bought the 360 version 4 last year with my new laptop and that was upgraded to version 5 a while back. I agree that the 360 is probably a bit OTT but thought it might be easier to stick with what we've got if getting a different product means having to uninstall etc - still don't know if I would need to do that. :?

Looked on ebay, Amazon etc and there are some good prices but so many to choose from I can't make my mind up. Decisions, decisions!! :(
 
Amazon is a good place to look for the Norton Internet Security suite. It's about £28-00 at present but I have seen it going for less than that. I paid around £24-00 for a 3 licence disk last renewal time. It was around the same the year before that.
 
I've just downloaded the full Norton 360 version 5 for half price from my link and got it on 30 day free trial so will activate my product key when the trial period is up (if I want to keep it).
Basically getting about an extra 2 weeks free (seeing as how there was 17 days left on the existing but now have 30 on the trial) and with another new laptop likely to be bought as a Christmas present, we can cover that too.

If you gave me Norton Internet Security, and £50.00, I still would not consider it a bargain.
It slows your machine, hogs resources, and does not always get rid of a virus, even when it finds it.
Their are many better Anti virus programs on the market.
 
To be honest, AVG or Avira or Avast work just as well and are free. The "big players" like Norton and Mcafee do exactly what trazor said and use scare tactics to get you to buy their products. You are no safer with paid for AV software than with free AV software.
