Old Conservatives don't understand

So to sum up

Thatcher built nearly 100 x more council houses per year than Blair.

The decline of home ownership among the young slowed under the tories and has started improving.

And the lefties hate poorer people having a chance to buy a home they’ve rented for years at a discount.

To sum it up, the housing system is broken. Profiteers have kicked the arse out of it.

And the righties who got their gaff at half price think that young people today can't afford full-price houses because "they don't know graft like we do" (y)

Yes, it should be amazing that many of them pretend not to see it.

They have created a generational divide.

Looking at the antics of our young adults holidays, nights out and spending on cars and gaming are far more important that saving

This generation that had the opportunity to buy and live in a council house at a knock down price didn't include a lot who flew the nest.
They had to get on the property ladder and gave up a lot to do so.
Also a factor at the time was being at the mercy of whether an endowment mortgage would cover it at the end, a lot became a cropper with that scheme.

Murdochcat, for example.

Absolutely not. People can and do buy homes around us and it’s extremely expensive. A lot of it down to saving and making choices.

All you hard left simply moan but not offer resolutions except vote for the others as they can’t r as bad

Reality will play out in the future so who knows but one thing FOR SURE is that the ratio of those working to those who are retired is changing and not for the better. The workers and the well off retired will have to contribute more to stand still

I'm interested in your suggestion that private landlords should be forced by law to sell their rental properties to tenants at half price. When do you think that should start?

Has it got nothing to do with the fact that during the Blair/Brown years house prices rose by a record amount, thus hindering the younger buyers attempt to get on the ladder, it clearly shows on your chart this was the period when figures plummeted for them.

According to Statista, the average deposit amount for first-time buyers across the UK in 2022 is 26%, against the average UK property price of £243,705.

And since the Tories want to raise the retirement age to 71, and some would like 75, it's hard to see how anyone on a working wage can ever afford to buy a house and save for retirement.

Only the same principle as your wife being Beryl from the bookies, because Grace was well out of your league.
