Old Conservatives don't understand

Idiots work in all areas of business/industry, some councils are successful some are not. To say all councils are run by idiots is just plain daft.

Are all business people crooked?

Are all gas engineers scammers?

There are fundamental survival of the fittest differences between public sector and private sector. Part of the problem with local government is that weakness is designed in as part of the democratic process.

Apart from cooperatives you wont find many businesses where people with no relevant experience can be elected to the board. You then have an over representation of high Cs in personality types, which means nobody stands back and says should we do this differently.

Businesses have to compete and innovate and even innovate to compete, the public sector is basically a big commissioner of services, innovation doesn't come from inside.

If the private sector is so great, how come Carillion went bust?

And why are councils busy bringing services back in house because they can offer a better service and cheaper

If the private sector is so great, why are tenants being so badly failed by housing associations?

If the private sector are so great how come the privatised water companies have amassed £60b in debt….Is it money spent on amazing innovation?

It seems your argument needs rethinking

I would say 'unbelievable' but…nah, only to be expected. Talk about hypocrisy!

Is it legal to sell a house at below market value, in the UK?

I vaguely recall that it might not be, as doing so would lessen some duties owed?

Not defending her, just asking a genuine question.

Like this lucky MP?

She seems to be claiming that she has never said she is against Right to Buy in principle, just the current level of discount and the fact that most of the houses haven't been replaced. It looks like she supports a return to the lower discount which she actually received.

- Your Carillion example proves the point
- Water companies are public authorities

It is legal.

However, stamp duty must be declared at the market value. I'm not sure if that duty applies to RTB/RTA discounts. Since, it is a right granted as part of the contract of tenancy, I suspect not.

You might just be getting it.

It's not right, is it.

When has anybody sensible said it is right. Why can't all tenants tthat qualify have the same right ?
why do you keep asking the same question?

Anyway - it seems [not so old] lefties like the status quo, though she wants to bring the ladder up after both her and her husband who both had and sold council houses through RTB benefited. It looks like one of them may have committed fraud.

It also looks like she is a big fan of Maggie T...

its very hard to see how...

"But I am angry that the Tories have since put the dream of a secure home out of reach for so many others.'"

and

"Ms Rayner stated that Labour's policy was to 'review the unfair additional market discounts of up to 60 per cent' on council home purchases following Tory changes to the policy in 2012."

can be aligned. Surely lower discounts means fewer can afford to buy. Though handy if both you and your hubby have one each.

A council home is a "secure home". It's actually called a Secure Tenancy. Often it can be passed on.

I think what she is trying to say, is that she believes too much money is now being given away to people buying their council houses, which would be better spent on building secure affordable homes.
