I have this old remote which I think has recently been a victim of the kids spilling something on it. As you'll see from the video, I have tried quite a few things to get it working (with some success), but now some of the topmost buttons no longer work. Hoping someone can provide some useful tips before I have to get a universal remote (don't need a new TV ;)):

Thanks in advance

try washing the back of the flexi rubber bit with washing up liquid and an old toothbrush to clean the black contacts on the back of the flexi bit. wash the housing as well to get rid of spilled liquids. I always just use isopropyl alchohol to clean the circuit board pads

There are many videos on YouTube that lead you through the steps you can try before you give up and buy a replacement from eBay.

Thank you, will give those a go.

Hi! I've had to rejuvenate an old remote, and after trying the usual tips, cleaning with ipa, rubbing the conductive pads with a pencil, and reading that conductive paint soon loses its effectiveness, (so saved some money there...) I found the cheapest and so far OK way (from YouTube) is to glue pieces of baking foil to the worn key pads. You have to try to scratch off some of the coating on the pads first to give the glue some key, then I tried superglue but that didn't last and then Evostick which sofar so good.
Also, you might not have ipa, but do you have any meths or even nail varnish remover as you may still have some dried up liquid on the power button tracks that your contact cleaner isn't removing.

I have some acetone which I'll try. I managed to have some luck for a few minutes where the buttons started working before it went back to behaving badly

Thank you, might just have to go with this option soon

This. ^^^

When a couple of the buttons on my Panasonic remote started playing up, I just bought a new one (specific one, not a universal remote) for about six quid off eBay. That was a couple of years ago and it's still going fine.

Thanks, I think I will most likely head down this route now that it's been pointed out how cheap they are

It's just that if you can patch up your old remote with a little effort and baking foil, and glue, you save not only your money but something from ending up in landfill.

Thanks all, I tried my best to revive the remote but I could see the PCB tracks geting exposed but no luck with getting the buttons working. As suggested in the thread, ordered a matching remote from ebay
