We've got a door to our balcony from our kitchen. We just bought this apartment a year ago and had our first winter here last year where we noticed something isn't right with the insulation. The door knob actually gets frost and it seems what was installed there by the previous owner just isn't enough for our Montreal winters. We spend December to March below 0C. Roughly -5C to -12C for those months.
Anyway, here's a video of what's there now, you can see me pulling the door closed from the outside and this particular type of insulation flexing, that feels like it's sponge wrapped in some sort of nylon fabric, demonstrating how loose it is. And here are a few shots of how the bottom and corner of the door have been insulated. You can see how the insulation at the bottom of the door is sort of perpetually compressed.
Any recommendations for what to replace all this with would be lovely. Thanks.
