I've been covering a wall in Leyland Trade Contract Matt Emulsion and it's starting to get on my nerves! The result is as follows:

I know I made the cardinal sin of starting the middle of the wall but the paint was going off so fast I couldn't get to the top of the wall from the bottom. Leyland has a good reputation but it was warm in the room last night. I've done 2 coats of this now but wonder if the warm room and the quick drying time are partly to blame (aside from my rubbish technique!).

Also, there are odd patches of rougher paintwork dotted around. I think that the previous owners painted straight onto bare plaster and prior to this I went over everything with a mist coat and that looked a Hell of a lot better than this!

Before I do another coat and blame the paint itself, I am asking for advice on how to correct this? Two of the walls in this room were painted with Dulux Matt Emulsion (coloured) and that went on perfectly. But I noticed the wall stayed wet for a lot longer.

Cut the wall in first all the way round. Add some water to your paint and in this instance I'd roller top to bottom in bands slightly more than a roller width. After each band do a gentle lay off from top to bottom. Load each roller full up to the max, Literally each band should take about 7 to 10 seconds before moving on to the next adjoining band.
It looks like the walls are skimmed with something. Kind of like a Spanish hotel room. This is probably why it looks uneven. I don't think you can do much about this without getting it skimmed.

Update and a lot better this morning. I did two things:
1. Bought some Leyland Contract Vinyl Matt
2. Repainted horizontally with a light lay off.

I was about to water it down and I thought I'd give it a shot. My shoulder hasn't thanked me though as I had to go like the clappers to keep a wet edge. I think I just about pulled it off! A couple of rough patches are still there bth I'm not going to do anything about them at the moment. I'll sand it down next time i need to repaint but for now, it will do.
