Painting panelling

Help! )

I am painting old panelling and before priming, I am wanting to fill the grooves in with mudd. I started with a putty knife and at the rate I was going, it'll take forever.
Is there an easier way to do this?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

try flexable decorators chalk, this comes in a tube and you have to buy a 'gun' to use it but its quick and easy, can normally be overpaunted in an hour, unlike putty which you have to leave for months to dry out before painting.

Hi

I have some panelling I was either going to paint or drywall over. I saw on a home improvement show that they put a thin layer of mud on a drywall wall as it had a lot of holes and dents, etc that needed covering. They did the whole room like that. I didn't watch the whole show so I don't know if they sanded it after. But I thought, couldn't I do that to the panelling and it would get rid of the grain and the grooves? Has anyone done this or would it just make a mess. Also do I have to sand it after?
