Had a message on my phone this morning warning me that a password has been involved in a breach. It gave the websites that were involved. Over 170 of them! Seems like every website I’ve ever been on including this one. Some, even I don’t know the passwords as I’ve not been on them for over ten years. Mrs Mottie got a similar message on hers too. Anyone else on here get one? Both on iPhones. I can’t be arsed changing them - all the important ones have two part authentication.

Not here. Have you been on any dodgy sites, pornhub, xhamster by any chance?

lol. No! Dunno if Mrs Mottie has though……joke!

Funny thing though, my Vodafone broadband app tells me a new device logged on at 1.15am this morning.

Who was the email from Start by changing the password on your Vodafone account. Use a different password for each site, and enable mfa if the site supports it.

To be serious, if you can set up 2FA, do it.

Then you know that to get into the account, a message needs to be sent to your mobile number first.

Yeah, all our finance ones have that already so not too bothered. Just be aware that if you see any posts on here from me rubbishing Brexit or the conservatives or being nice to Ellal, I’ve been hacked!

Or you've had an Ernest Saunders type of 'recovery' ;)

It could be a phishing scam. Were you asked to follow any links?

Was it a text message or an email. Have you still got it. Who was it from?

Did it say your password had been involved in a breach, or your email address?

Was it from https://haveibeenpwned.com/

You might have signed up to get notifications from them if your email ever gets compromised. That website also lets you check if your email was involved in a breach and what was stolen. I avoid the password checker tab because although they say it's ultra level encrypted, I'm still a bit overcautious.

Or it might have come through your antivirus etc. if you've asked to be notified.

Can’t find it now but it was from either Apple or my Keeper password manager. It said my passwords had been involved in a breach and it listed over 170 web sites - M&S, EBay, Amazon, this forum, forums I no longer belong to. Each one advised me to change the password. I haven’t done anything and haven’t had any unusual notifications. Yet!

It makes sense now. That's a useful feature.

I'm still interested in how this works. Do they tell you which password it is? Are they saying you have used that same password for 170+ websites? (At one time or another)
