Patching a lare hole in upstairs floor

I need to add a board to cover this hole in the 1st floor floor. The rest of the floor is 18mm tongue and groove, and there are joist on the edge of the hole. I need to fit a board to cover the hole and need to install battens? (not sure the name) to the walls to screw the new board to.

I'd really appreciate advice on what shape, size of wooden battens I should use to screw into the breeze block walls? How long do the screws need to be?

Is there anything else that I should be woried about?

I've got a multitool to cut the edges of the existing floor boards cleanly.

Needs special wall plugs to hold in thermalite blocks , can you fix on timber below at wall edge ?

Couple of lightweight joist hangers and a bit of 4x2.

Or really you could forget the hangers and screw two ledgers onto the joists to support the 4x2.
I presume there's a noggin or something to support the join highlighted green?

Thanks cdbe, I'll do that. There are some metal strips there to secure against some kind of noggin.

Just to be sure the 4x2 has the long side horizontal?

Vertical, although for that span it wouldn't matter.
