Paving on grass slope

I have a grass slope, not much of an incline - about 1foot drop over the 4.5m I want to lay flooring on. The grass is on thick soil very high in clay - very wet in winter.

I want to level it off and while it comes off the bottom of a deck, we have a large deck and don't really want more decking. To create a level area (about 4.5 x 3.5m), I am confident I could do it with a timber frame and concreted in posts as have done this elsewhere. However, the question is what to put on the top of it. Marine ply treated would give the kind of plain finish, but I assume no matter how good the ply it will eventually rot.

Ideally we would have slabs, or even put some shingle in with edging on the frame to keep it in. (we have shingle on the path, so it would work in terms of textures etc).

So questions:
1. Any good ideas of what to do that would give a plain, smooth (not too smooth to walk on wet) finish that could be laid on a timber frame.
2. Any better ideas and thoughts?
3. If I created a frame, could I just lay a concrete base down (maybe with some iron supports in at the shallow end or throughout? It would be quite a lot of concrete, in a house with no rear access except through a narrow door, but doable. If I did this, do I need to prep the ground - even taking up the grass?

I realise these are stupidly newbie as questions, but go for it if you have any good ideas!

I think youre saying you intend to drop slabs onto the grass. You need to do it properly, dig out and put in a base of mot or broken down bricks, otherwise the whole thing will look terrible and wont last. Shingle might be the better alternative, or just extend the decking.

In lieu of a photo i'd imagine a gently sloped path cut into the clay would suit the surrounding landscape. Using timber to support concrete isn't a good idea, so look up ways to form a sand/gravel layer to support slabs, or if you have a bigger budget perhaps consider a resin path. You can use eco-blox to support the sides of the slope and allow grass to grow back.

Some clarification needed from the OP I think. I read "I want to level it off" as meaning, like a deck over it, but he also says "don't really want more decking". Multiple references to "level" suggest that, contrary to the thread topic, he doesn't actually want paving on the slope, but above.
So I think the OP wants a deck, but not a timber surface to walk on.
