Four years ago we started hanging some 16" half round baskets along a fence. For the first two years we had a really good display with plenty of flowers. However, the last two years have been disappointing with sparse growth and a lot less flowers. The plants are always bought from the same nursery and are planted at the end of May, beginning of June.
We thought it might be a weather problem as summers are a bit erratic in our corner of Cumbria. However, I am now wondering if there is another reason.
The only thing that we have done differently the past two years is to use peat free compost. This year we used a moisture retaining peat free compost designed for pots and baskets. Is there any possibility that the change of compost has affected growth? We are at a bit of a loss otherwise.
