Hi

During a recent DIY project I dislodged some plaster. I'd like some advice on how to repair the damage, I've never really plastered so I'd like to take a crack at it myself!

I believe I need to use Sand/Cement render initially and then skim over it?

And Advice would be gratefully received.

Kevin

Couple of things:
There are cracks in the blocks that might have something to do with that patch being loose. Esp. being so close to an opening (a doorway?).
A wood board appears in the second pic. Whats the purpose of the board?

What was it previously covered with - gypsum plaster or render (my screen doesn't show it too clear)?
Is it a solid wall or a cavity wall?

Thanks for the reply. In answer to your questions, The board is a 4x2 frame for a Sliding Door Wardrobe. I need to plaster up to it.
Cavity wall - block and brick.
There was a frame there previously, the 4x2 was fixed with Brads which is why the cracks are there I think. The conduit created a week point when I levered the old frame out.

I'd perhaps stick with Bonding and skim rather than Render, should be a little easier if you're new to it.
Worth securing a strip of EML (expanded metal lath) over the cracked blocks for strength before Bonding.
Don't forget to pva the blocks - aerated blocks have a lot of suction.
Worth tidying the edges of the existing with a Stanley knife before you start.
