Plasterer has scraped off artex containing asbestos

I’d keep quiet if I was you. If he’s not asbestos licensed and you knew you had white asbestos on your ceiling, why did you let him do it? Now you know it’s in your bin, what do you propose to do with it?
 
We thought he was just going to skim over it as that is what we had paid for him to do. In no instance did he say he was going to hack bits off of it. It is legal to skim over asbestos-containing artex without a license because it's not disturbing it.
 
I’ve had artexed ceilings plastered over before now by a friend. Was years ago and I have no idea whether they contained asbestos or not but I do remember him hacking off bits in places with his trowel before plastering. When I asked him why he was doing that he said if he didn’t, I’d need half an inch of plaster all over if I wanted it level! Perhaps that’s why your bloke did what he did?

Thanks yes I understand why he did it (because it's easier for him) but my question was what can I do, not why did he do it.
 
tidy up, vacuum up (wear a dust mask when doing so) , throw the rubbish away and get on with things best you can.

Please DO NOT vacuum up. Thats the worst thing you can do. When asbestos is disturbed, the fibres become air borne and get breathed in which is the hazard. Vacuuming will just spread them around even further. Also please don't just "throw it away" - think about it, it goes in your bin and then the bin wagon throws it in the back with a cloud of deadly asbestos fibres blowing down the street.... its not just your own health then but also the health of others you're dicing with.

I can't see the OP now but I think you need to take professional advice. Assuming its your own home, surely your families health is way more important than trying to cover your arse and hide this?!?!

A plasterer skimmed my ceilings and being a 90s house, its unlikely to have asbestos. I later got it sampled and came back no asbestos detected. However, all Artex/Textured coatings should be tested for asbestos before they are drilled, or scraped.
