plastering on and door lining slightly big

I have a stud wall that has finished depth of pretty much spot on 100mm
I have planed timber door lining that is about 108mm

is 4mm on each side too much to ask of skimcoat?

should i be thinking of getting 2-3mm off the door lining timber or is there smarter ways to do this?

4mm is good if you intend 2 coating it.

iv never plastered before so it could be in my favour to have two coats.... sort of a take two approach after learning on the first coat. is it ok to do two coats with standard plaster...not some other 'bonding' plaster like i think i saw somewhere

no bonding coat. how big is the area?

Sorry can you please clarify?

1) no bonding coat= do not use a bonding coat?
or
2) no, bonding coat=as in i SHOULD use bonding coat?

if 2) what is bonding coat? is it different stuff altogether or just a different mix ratio of normal plaster or somthing?

area quite small, see picture. Both sides of the wall you see to left of opening

you won’t need a bonding coat.
bonding coat is an undercoat/backing plaster for filling out much deeper than 4mm .
4mm is nothing , you could do it in 1 coat with multifinish , but your result will be neater with 2.

@bennymultifinish when you say multifinish for you mean multipurpose joint compound?

I have plasterboard (Gyproc) and the joints taped using joint compound! do i use joint compound for the skimcoat? I had bought gyproc skimcoat for the skimcoat but i was told somewhere that this should not be used over standard joint compound?

I thought you intended skimming it?
if you intend skimming it with multifinish your joints should be scrim taped.

see Iv now found myself confused between skimming, skimming with joint compound and skimcoat (by gyproc)

in summary, i have taped corners with paper tape and joint compound already. What do i skim with?
