Plastering splits/cracks: after removing chimney breast and installing floor joists

Hi,

I recently had a chimney breast removed and floor joists replaced/extended.

They only plastered the wall (since I planned on skimming the whole house myself).

It's been a week since it was completed, the buildings inspector passed the work.

However, I'm starting to see some splits in the plaster. They seem to be evenly apart, so I'm a little worried.

Does anyone have any opinion?

That's awful looks like its dried out to quick causing it to craze that job wasent done by a spread

I agree 100% with our Steve. That is an absolutely rubbish job, done by someone who is not a plasterer. Get them back to take it off, and get a real plasterer in. Did the building inspector see that mess?

As above, that doesn't look like it's any sort of movement that's caused that, it's because the plaster has dried out way too quickly due to suction levels not being addressed. Coupled with that, looks like it has been put on by someone that's blind.

I had a plasterer come round and take a closer look. He said it was solid, and just looked like it dried out too quickly (perhaps not enough bonding on the wall). He said since I would skim over it, it didn't make any difference

You can still have crazing from drying out to quickly and it still be firm on the wall , that wall def dried out to quick no doubts about it
