so I have a Manrose extractor fan and I’m trying to replace an old fan which is running through and isolation switch and controlled by the main pull bathroom light switch, I had it setup properly before somehow but the timer function was not working, I’ve been trying and trying and with the pictures listed below I’m getting no power to the fan at all, just flicking lights when I switch it on, I am a completely dummy so apologies for my stupidity but can someone please take a look at the images attached below and tell me where I’ve gone wrong thank you!

did your old fan have a timer?

how many wires go to the fan, and what colour are they?

And how many come from the light, and what colour are they?

If I interpret your pics correctly, I think you have a supply of only two wires, which will not run a timer, but will run the fan.

It will all be very much easier if you have a multimeter. Pop out to the shops and buy one. I think they start around £8 in Wilko and Aldi.

I looks like you have a two-gang two-way lightswitch. Why?

Can't see the markings on the fan terminals but Brown is usually the Permanent Live and Black is usually the timer switched live.

If your light doesn't stay on, it would appear the switch is broken - the light switch; not the pictured isolator switch.

Markings on the fan
Where grey wire is it’s N, brown is S/L and black is L but I don’t know if I have them the correct way around

I think the wires from the light are the thicker light brown and blue wire,

im confused because in tutorials I’ve watched it’s just simple wiring of the brown, black and grey but the two thicker wires which are paired by themselves which is thick brown and blue have thrown me off

Try swapping the Brown and Black.

Me too.

Let us know if swapping the Brown and Black does anything.

If you control the fan with this isolator switch then the timer won't work; it should be controlled by the light switch.

So to get the timer to work and have the fan come on and off when I turn the light off, i need to connect the fan directly to the light switch?

I have managed to get the fan running but it only runs when I switch the light on, when I turn the light off the fan just keeps running, at first it switched off after about 1 minute as by the timer settings when I switched the light off but now after adjusting the timer myself, the fan just keeps running regardless of what I set the timer to
