PM Questions - Starmer at his best

UK has to pay the accomodation costs of refugees sent to Rwanda for 5 years.
If any of those refugees commit a crime in Rwanda, they can be sent back to UK.
I wonder what the lowest level of crime a refugee could commit to get that return ticket?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Rwanda must have seen the PM and the HS coming.

They are definitely in a strong negotiating position.

Blup

With all this money sloshing around in Rwanda, i wonder how the corruption index will behave?
But corruption remains prevalent in the country
In spite of these noteworthy improvements, other indicators suggest that corruption remains widespread and systemic in the country. Rwanda has performed consistently poorly in the last iterations of TI’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI), with scores of 3.1 in 2005 and 2.5 in 2006,indicating that corruption in Rwanda is consistently perceived as rampant by the various CPI sources.

Will the UK be paying in to the Rwanda health system for the medical care for the 'relocated persons'?
Rwanda follows a universal health care model, which provides health insurance through the mutuelles de santé.[15] The system is a community-based health insurance scheme, in which residents of a particular area pay premiums into a local health fund, and can draw from it when in need of medical care.

As Dominic Cummings said, the Rwanda scheme was a distraction it was never intended as an actual solution. The Tories have deluded themselves it's an actual policy.

It's laughable that they are now legislating in a weird attempt at changing facts: "if we pass a law that says Rwanda is safe, then it must be safe" :ROFLMAO:

Perhaps they could pass a law that says: "there are no immigrants". ;)

@Roy Bloom, you picked up that they serve their sentence first and only then can they be returned.

Rwanda locks up petty criminals where as we are reluctant to prosecute them.
I haven't read the details, I picked it up from Starmer in PMQs.
Where are these details?

Does that mean they get to be buried in UK?

Rwanda: Petty Crime Suspects Summarily Executed

Phew! Thank goddness for this:
Minor Offenses

  • A petty offense is a crime punishable by imprisonment not exceeding six months or by a fine. Petty offences are tried at the “Tribunal de Base,” with three appeals available.
Possible examples (not exhaustive) include: traffic offenses (including drunk driving) and petty theft.
Maybe it only applies to US citizens.

Policing minister Chris Philp said the conditions of the deal mean that those convicted of a serious offence - who had previously been sent from the UK to Rwanda under the government's plan to tackle immigration - could be sent back to the UK after they have served their sentence.

Mr Philp told Sky News a provision in the treaty that "respects items in Rwandan law" means a "small number might be eligible to return to the UK".

It's not clear what crimes are eligible. Theft for example carries a mandatory sentence.

I therefore don't think becoming a criminal is a fast track back the UK.

Or a fine. Who pays the fine.

Even 6 months is not long in the life of a refugee. They might have spent longer than that on the road to UK.
And as they have served their sentence, they can't be re-tried in UK for the same offence.

6 months ? You get 6 years for bad mouthing the government.
