I've got a room which is being fitted with a 10mm underlay and carpet by a fitter this week.
From fitting laminate flooring elsewhere in the house, I purchased a polythene vapour barrier from Wickes and have plenty left over.
The carpet is being fitted in a room that is naturally pretty cold (to the point of condensation issues in the past) and I'm always conscious of trying to find methods of insulation where I can.
I was thinking that if I put some of this polythene stuff on the floorboards prior to the carpet underlay and carpet being fitted, this would maybe give me another layer of insulation and maybe give a bit more resistance to cold air coming up through the floor.
I'm just wondering
- Is this something people actually do?
- Can this actually hurt?
- Does this make it harder for fitter to work?
