Portable Heater, working, but smelling really bad!

I bought an electric Homebase 2kW 2000W Convector Heater s/h which works great, but ever since I've had it, it absolutely stinks! fusty, smell, (not so much burning) but an awful smell which can give you a headache after a few minutes, thus defeating the object of having a heater on to keep warm!

I'm sure its a simple Homebase 2kW 2000W Convector Heater just like this one :

Thing is it looks like its sealed and an 'all in one' cover so its not that easy to get into.

Can anyone give any advice on how to clean or stop the smell on something like this?

Maybe in store/unused for a while collecting dust and dirt on the exposed elements, as happens to any similar heater not used for a while. Set it on max for an hour, in a room with the window open - it will burn off, then the smell will go.
