Potterton ep 2002 to be replaced by Hive wiring help required please.

Hi,
First time on here and noted that answers have been forthcoming for most of the wiring queries on this subject.
So I’ve attached a photo of the Potterton controller which runs the hot water and central heating separately and wanted to know where to put the wires into the new hive 2 channel controller,other than the thermostat there is no other wiring box anywhere.
also attached photo of thermostat for guidance on that as well.
Not wanting to mess things up.

There will likely be a "wiring box" somewhere the other ends of the wires from the programmer and thermostat have another end. However it doesn't matter for what you want to do, you are simply replacing one dual channel programmer with an identical dual channel programmer. [From a wiring, point of view, not a functional point of view]

The wires should be moved from the EP terminals to the Hive terminals that have exactly the same function. You will need the Hive Dual Channel version. And in this case the terminal numbers correspond nicely.

So, the wires in:

EP N ..... Hive N

EP L ..... Hive L

EP 3 Hot water on.....Hive 3 Hot water on

EP 4 Central Heating on... Hive 4 Heating on

The brown link wire presently between the EP 'L' and '5' is discarded as the Hive has this link made for you internally.

Earth wires terminated in the Earth Tether

The existing room thermostat will need decommissioning properly, it can't just be disconnected and removed or the central heating will be left 'open circuit' and will not work. This is done by connecting the two 'live' thermostat switching wires together (The red and black wires in thermostat terminals 1 & 3) This can be done at the thermostat, or at their place or origin. Or alternatively leave it in place and set it to its maximum setting. That way it won't interfere with the Hive.

Edit: You don't give any details of the heating system that the controls are connected to, if it's an elderly system with gravity circulation of hot water and only the central heating is pumped then the Hive needs to be set to 'Gravity' operation. If it's a fully pumped system with motorised valves [eg. S-Plan] it should be left on the default 'Fully Pumped' setting. If you're not sure which yours is then there is a switch on the back of the EP2002 which will show if it has been set to 'Gravity' or 'Pumped'

All depends on what system you have, which @stem has deduced you have an S-plan and isn’t required for those terminals. They’re not in the EP2002 either ;)

As @CBW the existing EP doesn't have any connections to it's 'off' terminals 1 & 2, so neither should the Hive.
