I've got an old flat roof on my extension that is well due a change, it's not leaking but it's definitely dry and cracking in places and has a carpet of moss on it. We're planning on replacing the roof when we have the bathroom in the extension done next year.
I've started to remove the moss and spray moss killer as the roof barely gets any sun, so it isn't helping in any way other than making the roof heavier, uglier and trapping moisture.

My question is, if I want to protect the roof for another season, should I just whack a bag of chippings on, or use some sort of roof sealant? I've seen paint-on coatings you can get but that would involve lifting all the chippings off, I believe.
Any recommendations gratefuly received!

Acrypol would go over the top as a short-term repair I think.

But the moss might be keeping the water out..... maybe leave it!

To protect your old flat roof temporarily, consider using a bag of chippings as a quick solution. Using a roof sealant would require removing the chippings and might be more involved. This can buy you some time until you replace the roof next year.
