Hi,

I’ve just moved into a house with a push button toilet and it’s not working. The buttons just feel loose and you can’t press them.

I’ve had a look, and I can see that when you push the button it’s meant to pull a cable that then causes a mechanism to go up and let the water out. I think it’s something to do with this cable that is wrong.

I can lift up the tube bit (not sure how to explain that) and let the water out, but I can’t seem to get any pressure on to that cable.

I tried to push the bit that the button would push on with a rod, that made no difference.

I have no idea if this explanation is making it clear to anyone what I am talking about, but I would really appreciate some help!

Show us some pics of the push button,it's connections ,and the flush valve where it connects to.

If you press down on the
" Button presses here" part with a screwdriver ( or similar) and the flush valve doesn't lift you will need a replacement. Or you could unscrew the two halves of the plastic cover that houses it and see if the cable end has come adrift and can be refitted.

Thank you, no the button pushes here but does nothing- I fiddled with it and got it to work once, but then when I put the lid back on it must have loosened again. I think a new one is easiest!

Thanks!

That would be a good replacement. Easy and cheap to replace if it goes wrong in the future (as they all do eventually).

In order to fit it, however, you will need to separate the cistern from the pan as the basket/overflow part screws up from below. Don't forget to use a new donut washer when it goes back together.
