PVC v timber cladding

Not really a category for this but thought this might be as close as I’ll get… we are planning on cladding the top Part of our house just wondered what peoples Opinions are on pvc v timber cladding?

It’s going to be a light/mid oak Colour

Well timber cladding will need maintenance every few years, could crack or warp, pvc is UV stable and maintenance free other than maybe a wash down every few years
 
A house near me has thermo wood cladding, it's very slick, very stable and has not been painted/protected since installation 5 years ago.
Can't imagine it's cheap though.
 
The risk with anything uPVC is thermal coefficient of expansion which is horrible. It's in the order of 0.06-0.08 mm/deg/m so e.g. a 4m run of cladding between the depths of winter (say -10 degrees) and the height of summer (say 40 degrees under direct sunlight) is (taking a middle value) 0.07 x 50 x 4 = 14mm - Yes, it really can be that much! Obviously the darker colours are worse as they get hotter under direct sunlight. Fibre cement cladding has a very low thermal expansion coefficient of about 0.01 mm/deg/m
