Hi all,

Have an ancient Pyronix Sterling 10 in our house. Last night it went off twice, same PIR. Vacuumed it out in between and there’s nothing around that I think might have set it off, no droughts, no radiators, no balloons. Thinking of just replacing the PIR. Is there anything particular I need? Was looking at a Pyronix pet one as we have a cat although it’s shut out of the room that the PIR triggered in normally.

Any gotchas I need to be aware of?

Looking at this:

When was the last time the backup battery was replaced, a failing battery can throw up all sorts of problems.

Probably about 10 years ago. I hadn’t considered that. It’s been ok since my last post - if it does it again I think I’ll take down the pir and vac it out. Any more grief and I’ll probably call somebody out; it’s at least 20 years old and given the invasive stuff has been done presumably it would be relatively easy to replace with a more modern system and PIRs using the same wiring?

Should be changed every 4/5 years or when any issues show up.

A failing battery can show up in a number of different ways.
